Education strives to provide an environment in which students can learn. At
the Center for Professional Development, students take learning to a higher
level by applying their knowledge to solve real-life problems. Dr. Bob Carlson,
Professor and Director of the Center for Professional Development, states “it
is important to learn in the classroom, but it is even more meaningful for
students to demonstrate that they have assimilated the knowledge by completing
a real-life project. This hands-on reality-based approach to education is what
prepares students not only for a job, but to become innovators, entrepreneurs
and leaders of the future.”
As part of their class projects, students were asked to “apply what they learned
in class to solve a real-life problem”. With that as an objective, students
developed several great ideas. Professor Lidinsky, Assistant Director of Information
Technology and Management, stated “we are very proud of our students and their
accomplishments. Many of the student projects were recognized with awards,
presentations to professional societies, coverage in newspapers, mention
in trade publications andin the case of several studentsoffers of employment”.
The Center for Professional Development plans to continue to innovate and
is looking for real-life projects from organizations. If your organization
has a potential real-life project, please contact Dr. Bob Carlson, Professor
and Director of the Center for Professional Development, at 630.682.6002 or carlson@iit.edu.
