SC 562 Word 2003: Intermediate

In this course, many of the formatting features of Microsoft Word 2003 which are incorporated in the program are covered. Topics covered in this session include:
• Creating document sections and setting text into a column format.
• Creating and formatting tables in a Word document.
• Importing data from an Excel spreadsheet.
• Using styles to automate document formatting.
• Adding headers and footer to documents.
• Inserting graphics and the creation of graphic text using WordArt.
• Addition of watermarks to documents.
• Basics of using and creating templates.
• Commenting document and the merging of documents in the workgroup environment.
• Printing options, labels and envelopes, mail merges.

Prerequisites:
• Basic knowledge of the Windows Operating System.
• Familiarity with the basics of Word.
    - Opening and saving documents.
    - Copying, moving and deleting text.
    - Page setup.
    - Character formatting.
• Printing of documents.

Who should attend: This course is a follow-on to the Word 2003: Basics (SC 561) course and is valuable for anyone knowing basic word processing and wants to hone their skills. The course introduces many of the formatting features for creating more professional publications and documents. Many of these features are explored during the session.

Expected outcomes: Participants will be able to:
• Create documents especially suited for reports and publication while using templates to generate often repeated reports or forms with original templates.
• Format documents for use in publications and newsletters including the insertion of graphics, clipart and tabular data.
• Use the style features of Word to easily modify the text formats within a document.
• Add comments and share documents within a workgroup.
